Interested in learning how to turn algae into gold? Oops, I mean energy? Scientists around the world are developing technologies to turn algae into a substitute for oil. Why is this so important? Because petroleum biproducts are used in everything from diesel to nylons to pharmacuticals to make-up. Today, algae is the only way to replace the needed hydrocarbons in the the transportation sectors and manufacturing sectors.
This single feedstock can produce biodiesel ethanol, biocrude, renewable diesel, renewable gasoline, and jet fuel.
Sam Sheperd, a chemical engineer, founded Algae to Energy, LLC in 2003. They have developed a unique way to turn algae into energy. Check out this feature video on Sam, his company and their technology.
